Fountains 10K Race & Fun Run 2007

Update [27/04/2008]: The results from the Fountains 10K Race and the Fun Run are now available. As always, if you notice any errors then please email Rob Exley to allow these to be investigated.

Thank you once again to everyone who took part and helped out with the race organisation. Also we would like to thank everyone for their patience during a day in which the weather once again conspired against us but particularly with regard to the parking and the short delay whilst the results were being processed. If you enjoyed the event then please add feedback on the Runners World website under the event listing. Equally if you have criticisms or suggestions as to how this can be made better then please email.

Update [25/04/2008]: The weather has been a bit kinder this week and this has helped in terms of drying the ground for the car parking. At the suggestion of the local farmer, we have changed the location of the car park to the field on the corner of Skelding Road. Therefore in order to avoid problems with the route of the fun run if you could approach the village via 'Low Grantley' then this would be most appreciated. Grass verge signs will be in place on the road from Ripon to aid navigation.

I will be setting up the course tomorrow and will provide a final update as to the condition on the moor tomorrow evening.

Update [20/04/2008]: Having just been round the course yesterday, I can confirm that the off-road section across the moor is very wet, some parts resembling more swamp! Suitable footwear is therefore recommended, probably not the best race to wear those nice shiny shoes! Also as the car parking takes place in a field adjacent to school, this may also be affected by any further wet weather. Could I suggest that you check the website periodically in the next week for any updates related to the event.

Update [18/04/2008]: Today was the closing day for entries. We have reached our race limit of 350 so I would like to reiterate that we are not taking entries on the day. If you have been unsuccessful in your entry you should receive your cheque back in the post. We have once again had a number of enquiries regarding entries or numbers not being delivered. If you have failed to put the correct postage on the SAE then we cannot be held liable if this is withheld by Royal Mail. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Rob Exley and we will try to help.

We are still monitoring the weather for next week due to concerns in relation to the parking. Could we please ask you if possible to car-share to reduce the number of vehicles and for safety reasons to try and arrive before the start of the Fun Run at 10:00am. Please ensure you check back periodically for any updates regarding the event.

Update [09/04/2008]: The race entries have started to be processed as of last week and you should have received your number through. If you are concerned that you have not yet received your number can you contact Rob Exley.

The places are now filling up fast, the closing date for entries is Friday 18th April. If you are still planning to enter can you please ensure we receive your form by this date.

Fun Run Entry forms are now available. This year the Fun Run course has been halved in length. This is due to UK Athletics restrictions on the maximum distance children under 9 are allowed to run.

Sunday 27th April 2008

The 10th annual Fountains 10K Race and Fun Run is once again being organised by  The Friends of Fountains School in association with Ripon Runners. This year the event is scheduled to take place on Sunday 27th April 2008 with the fun run starting at 10:00am and the 10KM race starting at 11:00am.

The race is approximately 10KM and is run over a one lap course on public roads and across scenic moorland within Nidderdale, an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. This is centered around the village of Grantley, near Ripon starting within the village and finishing at Fountains C.E School also within the village.

The race is once again part of the 'Black Sheep Race Series' and is the first in the 2008 calendar.

Signed parking is available within the village and facilities at the school.

Closing date Friday 18th April 2008 - Race Limit 350 - Only one prize per person

The entry form for the 10KM race can be downloaded here.

The entry form for the 1 Mile Fun Run can be download here.

N.B. The event is taking place a week earlier than previously, this decision has been taken to avoid problems with securing volunteers to perform the varied roles required to hold such an event. There are no entries on the day this year (advance entries only); as we were very close to our race limit last year please ensure your entry form is submitted in plenty of time.

Please ensure you put the correct postage on all envelopes as, following the Royal Mail postage changes, we cannot be responsible for any undelivered mail. Due to the excessive charges we will not pick up any entries where insufficient postage has been paid.
